an account from one Whistler Councillor

affordability

Affordability is a grand concept. What does it mean?

Keeping taxes low: the current council held the line for 3 years with 0% property tax increases. They did this by aggressively looking at expenses at the municipal hall. They changed the vehicle fleet turnover to every 3 years instead of 2. They went through the financials every quarter instead of annually so that discrepancies would be caught and corrected sooner.

Recreation programs: Families want choice of activity options, learning and play programs, and recreation facilities. Meadow Park and the Whistler Public Library are wonderful hubs of these options. Other community groups such as Whistler Community Services, Moving Mountains for Children and Sea to Sky Community Services need government support to continue their mandates.

the Housing spectrum: This is a major concern for our town. Please see the page about my thoughts on this.
