I am a Mommy, a wife, a ski patroller, avid Crossfitter, and 12 year resident of Whistler, BC. I am also the person behind @whipoli, a twitter account following the political community in Whistler. For the past three years, I have attended and reported on the council meetings so that those following could interact with me. In 2012, I was elected to represent residents and waitlist participants on the board of the Whistler Housing Authority.
Originally from Thornhill, Ontario, I’ve always had the itch to get to the mountains. While studying Political Science at York University (1998 – 2002), I joined the Canadian Ski Patrol System. As a volunteer patroller at Mansfield Ski Club, I discovered a group of like-minded individuals that reflected a desire to help keep the ski hill safe and accessible, all while having a great time! In my second season, I launched a program for Junior Patrollers to inspire and encourage younger people to join the patrol, in the interest of early recruitment. I was asked to step up as Director of Recruiting for Central Ontario the following season, which allowed me to work with all ski areas towards a common Recruiting initiative. My team was recognized that year by the National Executive for our efforts. As soon as I was finished University, I knew exactly where I wanted to head next…
I arrived in Whistler in October, 2002, with nowhere to live and I did not know anyone in town. I quickly made friends, found a place to live, and started work with Whistler Blackcomb Retail. I instantly loved the lifestyle and unique atmosphere. Leading winning teams of front line staff, I found that happy employees and balanced lifestyle promotes happy guests, and in turn exceptional sales and service. After 4 successful years in Retail, I moved to Group Sales, broadening my knowledge of how Conference groups, incentive travel, and tourism fit together, and how they contribute to the overall success of the Resort.
I bring to the table a keen interest in giving back to this community that has given me so much. I’ve worked with many different types of teams, and thrive when working together to solve challenges. I look forward to serving Whistler and working with the team on Council!
